Before you set out.

A short route to the official patch, a supported emulator, and your first partner.

How to play Pokémon Monomyth

  1. Prepare a clean, legally obtained Pokémon Emerald ROM.

The official patcher asks for a clean Emerald base. This site does not supply base ROMs or prepatched copies, and you do not need to upload any game file here.

  2. Apply the patch on the official website.

Go to Team Monomyth’s download and patching page ↗, select your base file there, and follow its instructions. Check its current patch version rather than trusting a reuploaded copy.

  3. Choose an emulator the creators support.

The table below summarizes the official list checked on November 2. Recheck that page for changes before installing an app. These are the creators’ recommendations, not our compatibility tests.

  4. Start the patched game, then choose your partner.

When you reach the starter choice, use our Pokémon Monomyth starter guide for the three opening move plans.

Which emulator should I use?

Selected options from the official supported-emulator list
PlatformOfficially listed options
DesktopmGBA; RetroArch with the mGBA core; NanoBoyAdvance
iOSManic EMU with mGBA selected; SkyEmu; RetroArch with the mGBA core
AndroidPizza Boy; RetroArch with the mGBA core

Delta is not supported.

The official download page explicitly lists Delta as incompatible. Do not use the fact that an emulator runs ordinary Emerald as proof it can run Monomyth. If you run into trouble, start by checking the official list.

What if the patch does not apply?

Check that the file is a clean Emerald base, not a previously patched game. Use the requirements and errors shown by the official patcher. We do not provide a separate checksum tool or diagnose your ROM on this site.

Can I trade starters?

The official trading guide describes a special desktop Celio Link and mGBA setup, as well as real-hardware link-cable trading. Do not assume a mobile emulator’s ordinary multiplayer feature is sufficient. Monomyth is not trade-compatible with official Generation 3 games.

Where should I get release help?

Use monomyth.jp for release information and the creators’ contact page for official support routes. This guide is independent and cannot provide a game file, official bug fix or support guarantee.
